European Union Youth Wind Orchestra - Call for Applications
The rehearsal session and concert tour of the European Union Youth Wind Orchestra (EUYWO) will take place from July 8 to 26 2017 in Luxembourg and The Netherlands under the direction of Jan Cober and in collaboration with the World Music Championship Kerkrade (WMC). It is generously supported by the Luxembourgish Ministry of Culture, the City of Luxembourg, the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg and the Erasmus+ / Youth in Action program of the European Union. After a rehearsal session and concert in Luxembourg, the orchestra will be from July 13 in Kerkrade in the function of “orchestra in residence” and accompany, among others, an international conductor course and a conducting competition for those who direct orchestras as well as participate in the project “Future generations” where youth wind orchestras from different continents will perform concerts in Kerkrade, Utrecht and The Netherlands. 70 young musicians from all over Europe are sought for the 2017 tour. EUROPEAN COMPETITION FOR PERCUSSIOIN SOLO AND LOW BRASS INSTRUMENTS 13th of November 2016, Luxembourg The music school of the "Union Grand-Duc Adolphe" (UGDA) organises on Sunday, 13th of November 2016, at the Conservatoire of Luxembourg-City, the European contest for percussion solo and low brass instruments (trombone, althorn, baritone, tuba) in the frame of the 33rd Luxembourg Competition for young soloists. The competition is placed under the high patronage of H.R.A. The Grand-Duke Jean of Luxembourg. The UGDA music school is expecting applications from all European countries. Six different levels (four in percussion) are proposed to enable beginners as well as advanced soloists to participate in the competition. Contestants aged not over 26 years may enter. Application will be closed on October 10th, 2016. 2nd EUROPEAN MUSIC COMPETITION FOR CONCERT BANDS – FANFARE ORCHESTRAS – BRASS BANDS April, 29th and 30th, 2017, Philharmonie Luxembourg After 2013, the Luxembourg music federation Union Grand-Duc Adolphe (UGDA) organizes in 2017 the 2nd European competition for wind orchestras in collaboration with the Philharmonie Luxembourg. The competition is open to wind and youth orchestras (concert bands, fanfare orchestras and brass bands) from all countries, an especially from Europe. Artistic director of the competition is the renowned conductor Jan COBER. The competition includes one level (highest levels: level A, national division, concert division, 1st division…) and three different categories (Wind Orchestra – Fanfare – Brass Band). Wind and youth wind orchestras compete together in their category. 2017 Rehearsal Session and Concert Tour

Arrival of the musicians: Saturday, 8th of July 2017 (afternoon/evening)


Rehearsal period: 9th to -12th July 2017 - Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg

Orchestra in Residence at WMC from 13th to 26th of July - Kerkrade (conducting competition, projects with orchestras from other continents in the frame of the project "future generations") 

Concerts: Luxembourg, Kerkrade, Utrecht..


Departure of the musicians: Tuesday, 26th of July  

Conductor of the Orchestra: Jan COBER, Dutch conductor of international reputation.


Works for wind orchestra as well an adaptation of a reknown symphonic piece.

Participating conditions

  1. Living in one of the EU Member-States or another European country
  2. Being an excellent musician with a high level musical knowledge (music students; professional musicians, etc).
  3. 15 to 30 years old.
  4. Playing a wind instrument, a percussion instrument or a double-bass/harp/piano.
Registration and selection procedure

 The application form can be downloaded. When applying, applicants may join a curriculum vitae, a recommendation and if possible a tape (CD, mp3 or web) with one or more solo works (with or without piano accompaniment) of the standard repertoire played by the candidate.


1.  The selected musicians are required to pay a participation fee amounting to 400 EURO.

2.  The travel costs to Luxembourg are in charge of the musicians.

3. The board and lodging fees, as well as all the travel costs of the orchestra in Luxembourg and NL will be paid by by the organisers in LU and NL.
